How Capitalizing on Freight Digitization is a Game-Changer

Digitization in gaming and gaming consoles changed the industry forever. Gone are the days of 8-bit graphics, old-school wired controllers, or blowing the dust out of a Nintendo cartridge (we all did it). Now 4K video, wireless controllers and headsets can be used to play with friends online through live-streaming or games can be downloaded, so there’s no need to visit a store to purchase.

The continued rise in ecommerce has similarly accelerated and highlighted the value of freight digitization for retailers, Consumer Product Goods (CPG) companies, and manufacturers. Traditional methods of handling pieces of paper for each shipment and requiring wet signatures can no longer keep pace with the volume of freight transferred within the supply chain. Like those old-school consoles, those still using dated shipping methods are lagging.

Shippers and 3PLs that manage their LTL freight by spreadsheets, outdated EDI, or proprietary transportation management systems are the equivalent to the Atari or Super Nintendo and are finding themselves falling further behind the curve. Companies are turning to the industry “game changer” or freight digitization to transform their supply chain. The goal is not to move paper digitally, instead, the focus is on enabling dynamic, intelligent decision making with real-time data exchange between systems.
